So I was talking with my dad about plans for Mars colonies IRL. He thinks its a good idea since as a kid he saw the moon landing. I said i didn't think its that good a plan. I realized something while talking... Gravity! Mars has a fraction the gravity of Earth. Canadian Astronaut Chris Hatfield was crippled from being in microgravity for only a few months. If we did have people living on Mars, they'd weaken from lower gravity and be unable to function on Earth (if they ever did return). Plus, people born on Mars would not be able to make it on earth. Their bodies might be so used to life on Mars, they might not even survive Earth gravity (not to mention the long trip between planets in microgravity). So unless we can make some kind of artificial gravity, Mars bases don't seem like a good idea IRL
