Louie Nichols was a military and scientific genius during several of the Robotech Wars.

History[]

Second Robotech War[]

Louie began his career as a hovertank pilot in the 15th Alpha Tactical Armored Corps during the Second Robotech War, serving under Dana Sterling. He was a scientific genius: often being able to find the secrets to the technologies of the Robotech Masters when the head scientists in the United Earth Government could not — he discovered the Bio-Magnetic Network in the enemy ship: a weakness that turned the tide of the battle. He also helped in piecing together much of the technology of the enemy Bioroid along with Miles Cochrane, and he also developed the Pupil Pistol. Nichols was forced to evacuate the Earth at the start of the Third Robotech War, joining the Robotech Expeditionary Force and working alongside Dr. Cochrane for many years.

REF Civil War[]

During the REF Civil War, he worked with the Haydonites to develop Shadow Technology. After the end of the conflict, he was boarded by Vince Grant, which, after knowing he had served with his son, Bowie Grant, recruited him, making him the science officer on the Icarus under his command.(Robotech: Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles)

Third Robotech War[]

Louie and Janice Shadow Chronic

Louie with Janice Em Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles

Louie served onboard the Icarus during the Third Robotech War. When the ship was arriving to the Omicron sector, he detected gravitational readings, and captain Grant, by Louie's suggestion, altered the emergence point. That saved the Icarus from falling into a Black Hole. It was only thanks to Louie's genius than the Icarus escaped from the Black Hole. He quickly repaired the fold drives, making possible for the ship to escape.

Once in Moon Base ALUCE, Louie helped the wounded captain Grant to disembark, and later ask permission to general Gunther Reinhardt to search the info onbard the crippled Deukalion. He was allowed to explore it, along with Maia Sterling. After finding Janice Em onboard, he quickly restored her.

After talking with Janice, he became very embarassed by her advances, though both find discrepances in the Neutron-S missiles designs.(Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles)

Fourth Robotech War[]

Later, after the Icarus arrived to Space Station Liberty, Louie managed to counter the Haydonite's jamming and to open channel with Skull Squadron.

When the Haydonite's technology Trojan horses became evident, and Grant ordered Janice arrested, Louie protested vocally, and Vince almost arrested him too. Once in the station, Grant ordered Louie to search a ship without Haydonite tech, and only found one, the Ark Angel. When the Invid Ariel teleported here onboard the Ark Angel, he felt fascinated about her powers, and expressed his interest to replicate them, before he began turning on the ship's Reflex Furnace, which he managed when Janice assisted him.

After the Battle of Space Station Liberty, he became member of the Ark Angel when it was sent to search the missing SDF-3. When he saw Janice alone, worried, approached her to comfort her. (Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles)

Personality[]

Louie, as most genius, was introvert and not very sociable, as he was more interested in machines than in people. His relationship with his friends of the 15th was slightly distant. Ironically, only after meeting Janice Em appeared to feel interested by her, and that apparently wasn't only because he felt interested by her technology, but because was developing feelings for the android. However, it is unknown if he began a relationship with her.

Notes[]

There is some discrepancy of Louie in Robotech: The Shadow Chronichles and Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles: In the last one, Louie is one of those which helped the Haydonites to develop the Shadow Technology, and, in the film, when Janice talked him about them, said to haven't ever heard about that race.
