Corporal Jansen was a rookie Robotech Defense Force VF-1 Valkyrie pilot in 2011. He was assigned to be Max Sterling's wingman following the death of his other wingman, Ben Dixon. Their flight leader Rick Hunter ordered them to go to the premier of Little White Dragon as a bonding exercise. (Love & War, Part 5)
