Lieutenant General Gunther Reinhardt was the supreme commander of the Earth Reclamation Force and is also the acting supreme commander of the Robotech Expeditionary Force during the absence of Admiral Rick Hunter.
Biography[]
Backstory[]
The son of General Adam Reinhardt, he joined the Pioneer Expedition alongside his father where he would rise through the ranks until he became one of the highest ranking members of the Robotech Expeditionary Force during the war against the Regent and his Invid in the Local Group of Fantoma. He became a General following his father's retirement, and became the commander of the SDF-4 sometime before the defeat of the Invid on Optera. By 2044, he had become a close of friend of Vice-Admiral Rick Hunter and his wife Admiral Lisa Hayes-Hunter.
He was one of the few REF members that was aware that Shadow technology was created using Haydonite technology.
REF Civil War[]
When General T. R. Edwards rebelled against Rick Hunter following the defeat of the Invid, Reinhardt stayed loyal to the Hunters and was one of the leading generals in the final battle against Edwards on Optera.
Third Robotech War[]
Following the civil war, the REF began their return to Earth to liberate it from the Invid Regess. While the plan was that both the SDF-3 and SDF-4 would participate in the liberation of Earth, Rick Hunter wanted to test the Neutron-S missiles far away from the planet and decided to give the leadership of the fleet to Reinhardt in case the SDF-3 failed to reach the battle.
When the SDF-3 failed to return to Earth, Reinhardt proceeded with the liberation of Earth and led the REF during the Battle of Reflex Point. When the tide of battle turned against the REF, Reinhardt authorized the use of the Neutron-S missiles to destroy the Invid at the cost of Earth's population. However, the missiles were destroyed by the Regess when she abandoned Earth with her children, ending the Third Robotech War.
Aftermath & Fourth Robotech War[]
Following the battle, Reinhardt debriefed the members of the REF at Moon Base ALUCE that without the SDF-3, the entire REF only had a year of Protoculture energy remaining.
When Scott Bernard informed him of the Children of the Shadows and their intention to destroy humanity and that Shadow technology came from them, Reinhardt immediately refused to believe that their allies the Haydonites would betray them while Vince Grant began to suspect that the Haydonites were the enemy fleet that attacked the SDF-3. When communications with Space Station Liberty were cut off, he immediately sent the Icarus to investigate the situation.
Following the Battle of Space Station Liberty, he assigned the crew of the Ark Angel the mission to find the missing SDF-3 and its Protoculture Matrix.
