Background information

"Gloval's Report" was based on the original Japanese episode of The Super Dimension Fortress Macross entitled "Gurōbaru Repōto" (Meaning "Global Report" in English) that was aired 16 January, 1983 in Japan. The story was extended into the hour long "Codename: Robotech", which was given to stations to air before the series.

This is a clip episode, which used footage from previous episodes to "pad" a clip episode with a framing device. In this case, it's a captain's log. In Japan, such episodes were produced to fill its episode numbers and give the animation staff a bit of break. It served particularly useful in the United States, as many stations picked the show up multiple episodes leaving some viewers confused on the plot.
