Vala Norri was a contender in the Robotech Crystal War. Vala served on-board the SDF-3 during its construction.
Biography[]
First Robotech War[]
Vala was on the side of the Zentraedi until the defect era of the First Robotech War. She began dating and fell in love with a human by the name of Kyle Bartley after the conflict, but broke up with him after he made a mistake and was kicked out of the RDF. (Crystal Dreams 1)
Crystal War[]
Sometime before 2021, Norri was stationed aboard the uncompleted SDF-3 under the command of Admiral Rick Hunter. After an unidentified group of Zentraedi folded around Saturn, her ex, now a reporter, was sent up to find the story. It was during his trip that the first battle of the Crystal War occurred, as uncultured Zentraedi began to attack the ship. Kyle Bartley, who had been given a Veritech for transportation to the ship, began attacking the enemy, earning him a minor job for the RDF.
Vala was not happy to see him, still angered with his mistake during the First Robotech War. (Crystal Dreams 1: Crystal Dreams) Within a year, the war had been won by the humans. (Robotech II: The Sentinels)
Behind the Scenes[]
It is possible to interpret the characters and designs in Robotech: Crystal Dreams to be an attempt to suggest that Kyle Bartley and Vala would later be the parents of Rook Bartley, as Vala was identical in design to Rook and Kyle shared her last name. However, game creator Chuck Romberger has clarified that this was not meant to be purposeful, and that the basis was likely done due to limited designs. He did, however, admit that the idea was interesting. Unless a Primary or Secondary source visits the idea, it is fan speculation and thus non-canon.
