Summary[]

The citizens of Macross Island try to adjust to their new life inside the alien vessel and Rick Hunter weighs up joining the Robotech Defense Force. The SDF-1 is faced with a long, dangerous journey home after it is discovered that the spacefold drive has disappeared. To make up for the missing components the crew stumble onto the idea of transforming the ship, which is soon put into use when the Zentraedi attack.

Synopsis[]

The SDF-1 transforms for the first time.

To raise morale, Lynn Minmei persuades her aunt and uncle to open their Chinese restaurant up in space.

Rick learns that the VF-1 Valkyries can also fly in space and is given an offer by Roy to try and fly one again, but this also means he must join the military.

Because the conduit connected the main gun to the main furnace was lost when the fold system disappeared. Dr. Emil Lang proposes a radical idea: transform the SDF-1 so it can use its main gun against the Zentraedi. Captain Gloval hesitates because the civilians have finally started to settle down.

The SDF-1 is being hounded by the Zentraedi; Breetai wonders why the SDF-1 hasn't fired its main cannon, and Exedore suggests that they should hit harder.

ExsedolFolmo-2 Macross-5

Exedore suggests to Breetai that the Zentraedi forces should hit harder to get a response out of the SDF-1.

In the light of the advancement by the Zentraedi, Gloval and the crew decide to transform the SDF-1 into a humanoid configuration. Many of the citizens aboard are injured in the transformation, and Rick is tasked to save Minmei yet again. After the short skirmish, Rick decides to join the military.

Memorable quotes[]

  • Minmei: Are you going to leave everything like this or are you going to reopen the restaurant?
Max: What do you mean reopen the restaurant?
Minmei: We have everything we need so I'm sure it would be no problem. It'll be fun!
Max: Maybe so, but its awfully difficult to run a restaurant when these are all the rations they give you.
Minmei: Is that all they gave you? But you kept your place all through the war and you didn't have any problems, did you?
  • Soldier: I heard it was just you and that What's his name, that kid alone for 2 weeks. What were you doing all that time?
    Minmei: What do you mean?
Soldier: Oh I think you know
Other Soldier: Come on. Its obvious.
Minmei: Ohhhhhhhhh! You make me sick!
Other Soldier: You mean nothing happened? Nothing at all?
    Minmei: That's right!
