Pursuer

An Invid Pursuer.

The Pursuer is a powerful weapon that was created by the Invid during their war against the Robotech Masters. They were built in the time when the Regent's empire was vast and powerful. In design, it made use of organic relays and a brain to operate the automated vessel. Its intelligence allowed it to determine the weaknesses of its targets whilst its machine-like nature meant it was single-minded in the pursuit of its targets. The tracking system of the Invid Pursuer meant that it was able to sense Protoculture and homed on its targets by these emanations. In terms of armaments, the Pursuer was equipped with enough firepower to rupture the crust of an entire planet.

When the Sentinels took over the Farrago, an Invid escort vessel let loose the Pursuer in order to destroy the slave craft. By this point, this Pursuer was the last of its kind and struggled with its target due to the fact that the vessel did not make use of Protoculture as its power source. Initially, the Sentinels believed they had destroyed the Pursuer but evidently it survived. As such, the Invid installed a Protoculture homing beacon on the Farrago to trace it but its weak signal meant that the Pursuer did, on occasion, lose track of its prey.

It eventually managed to track them to Tirol after it had been liberated by the Robotech Expeditionary Force. The Sentinels revealed that even the primary cannons of the REF's vessels would be unable to harm the Pursuer. Furthermore, its pursuit of its quarry meant that there was the likely possibility that the warship would destroy Tirol if it succeeded in its mission. Following an alliance with the Sentinels, the two sides decided to lure the Pursuer into a cross fire where all their combined might would make use of Cabell's calculations which saw the destruction of the last Invid Pursuer.

Note[]

Ships of the Pursuer class would be world killers. Anything that can rupture or crack open a planet's crust (e.g. Earth has a crust that average's 30 km in depth - bottom of the ocean it's only a few km), will result in an extinction-level event. As in part of the crust would be liquefied, and the planet will lose part of its atmosphere and oceans. For example, the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs created a crater that had a 150 km diameter and was 20 km deep. It didn't crack open the crust, but as we know it was an ELE. Therefore if a Pursuer cracked open the crust, the result would be even more catastrophic. Which would make the Pursuer, the most powerful warship in known space (not including ships equipped with Neutron-S missiles). Neither the Zentraedi or Robotech Masters have warships that are world killers.
