The Icarus travels through Hyperspace to reach the SDF-3 (Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles)
Hyperspace was a dimension in-between standard dimensions of time and space. Through this zone, starships were capable of traveling great distances without being affected by the passage of time. Navigation through it was not always accurate and was one of the hazards when using hyperspace to travel across long distances.
