"Southern Cross (episode)" is the 39th episode of Robotech and third episode of Robotech: The Masters.
Summary[]
The 15th Squadron saves the day while on rear-guard duty, leading to another promotion for Dana Sterling.
Synopsis[]
Citizens of Earth are advised that war has been declared with the Robotech Masters. Military discipline becomes the order of the day. Sterling's 15th Squad is ordered to take a position as rear guard defense. Civil Defense is too tame a position compared to what the young lieutenant has in mind for an active military career but she carries out her orders -- until she sees the main base going up in flames. Mobilizing existing troops, Sterling returns to the base and attacks invading bioroids.
When the battle is reconstructed later, Earth Command Headquarters discovers that the turning point which saved the day came about when the 15th Squad forced the bioroids to return to their mother ship. Dana is promoted again -- to the first lieutenant. She appears astride her hover tank at the awards ceremony and jokingly tells the audience: "It was a hare-raising experience, folks, but through the miracle of 'rabbit-technology,' we were able to pull a victory out of our hats."
